Why?

This is a question that the Davis family has been asked so many times over the years. "Why?" There are so many reason this question has been asked. But as we look at today's date we may get a better understanding of the reason "Why?" is asked of us right now.

Today is October 31. An otherwise ordinary Tuesday. The kids went to school. The parents went to town to take care of several errands. Being Tuesday, things are all prepared for youth meeting. The mail came. Being the last day of the month, November's bills have been processed for payment. So what is the reason that we are asked "Why?"

Some people in America and even around the world are celebrating a special day known as "Halloween." This is not a special day to celebrate in the Davis home. But because so many people DO honor this day, we are asked "Why?" don't we celebrate.

As simply as possible, this is the reason. http://www.jeremiahproject.com/culture/halloween.html For understanding of some of the origins of this special day, which I will not call a "holiday," check out the link above. There you will find some details of the history of how Halloween came to be.

Long ago the Davis parents were convicted of their observance of this day. As children both of them participated in the festivities at school, in the neighborhood, and even in their churches. But as these parents grew in their relationship with Jesus Christ and gained knowledge and understanding of origins of special days and why they are celebrated, they decided to separate themselves and their family from the world's view of this day. "Holiday" means "Holy-Day." Halloween is EVERYTHING but holy.

The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 "Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil." Ephesians 5:11 says "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them." The Davis Family has the opportunity to expose the deeds of darkness when we are questioned about our not participating in Halloween. We have worked very hard over the years to share our stand on this without being critical of those who do not share our stand.

We do not condemn those who have not been convicted in the same manner that we have. That is not our job. But it is our responsibility as Christians to expose the truth of Satan. He has such an incresdible grip on our world on a daily basis. Why would we want to give him an entire day to his own?

In a world where celebrating Christmas and Easter have lost their original meaning, we see how Satan has pulled the wool over the eyes of the church, Christians, and everyone else regarding Halloween. We have been told by so many Christians that they count it an honor to hand out Christian tracks, bibles, and other things to the children who come to their doors on October 31. While we applaud the effort to get the Word into the hands of the children on this day, why is it that we aren't seeing this kind of effort the remaining 364 days of the year?

Even if you do not share this stand of the Davis Family, please join us in prayer on this evening. We know that the power of God is SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL than the power of Satan! But the forces of darkness are working overtime on this night. If you are interested in some additional details of what takes place on nights like tonight, feel free to email us. For His Glory!
