Back Pain...Ugh!

Well, anyone with back pain knows that it really interferes with life! My problems started in 1999 with a herniated disc. Every once in a while it will flare up for no reason. It has done just that.

2 Fridays ago Ken and I made our trek to Watertown. We walked through each of the stores we stopped at entirely, partly because we wanted to make sure we didn't forget anything, and partly because I don't get into stores much these days! I go through shopping withdrawal!

Remember how the pioneers had to plan a day to go to town to get supplies? That's what it's like here. WalMart is an hour away. Correction! We have a NEW Super WalMart that just opened this week! It's only 50 minutes away! Yuck. So when we go, we have a long list of stuff to get and places to stop.

Anyway, after walking all day through the stores, my legs and back were tired and that may have contributed to the flare up. By Sunday night Ken had to take me to the ER in Gouverneur for treatment. I was shot in both arms and sent home to rest with new drugs.

During this time of limited mobility I have felt a little lonely. I have been missing my friends. I sent an email to those friends last night telling them how much they mean to me. One of them called this afternoon and it was so wonderful to talk with her. I am so grateful God has blessed me with friends. It's just so lonely here sometimes. I love my family and the new people I am meeting, but it's not the same as those I left behind.

Cherish your friends. Enjoy the times you have together. You never know when you may be miles apart. Beginning again isn't easy. But with the Lord's help and the love and support of a great group of friends, I will be just fine. A bunch of chocolate doesn't hurt, either!

Pirate!

This is Nathan the Pirate, the mascot for Harrisville Central School. He's getting better at engaging the crowd during the games. His first game he was a bit nervous! In fact, he really was "the pirate who didn't do anything!"

Pictures will be coming soon. We are heading to town tomorrow and will have them developed!

Reagan Joy Sheets

This is an email we received today from my brother, David. We are celebrating and yet praying for this little life! Join us!

"We are celebrating the goodness of God today. David and Bea Sheets are proud grandparents of Reagan Joy Sheets, 8 pounds, 5 ounces, 20 ½ inches long. She was born on January 15, 2006 at 3:08 a.m. California time. We have seen her picture via camera phone. She has chubby pink cheeks. However, we really would covet your prayers on behalf of Reagan. Esther, her mother, tested positive for a bacteria (group beta strep positive, GBS).
A woman who has GBS does not usually have any symptoms of illness or long-lasting effects. A small percentage of newborns of women with GBS will be sick at, or after birth. When a newborn is infected with GBS, the infection can affect the blood, brain, spinal cord, or lungs. These infections can be very serious. The baby may have long-term problems that affect hearing, vision, or learning abilities if meningitis develops. Blood cultures for the GBS test are pending and will take several days for results.

So, you see, we need God’s touch on this new precious life and her parents. We will fly to California on Tuesday, January 17, 2006. We have faith that we will be able to send back answers to God’s faithful touch of healing on Reagan’s behalf. Thanks again for being people of prayer and faith."
Reagan has her own blogspot! www.reaganjoy.blogspot.com
We will keep you posted on Reagan Joy's progress! Thanks for praying!

I need a job!

You know, there was a time when I would have given anything to spend my days doing crafts, emailing, reading, minor housework, and other little projects. Right now, it's my life. I don't even feel that updating this blog is worth anything to anyone because there isn't nothing happening...or so I tend to think!

Let me share with you some of the things that ARE going on. Kenny has gotten a new job. Monday, 16th, he begins orientation with McDonald's. He's also waiting to hear back from New York Pizzeria as to a start date. So he actually has 2 jobs. He will work McD's in the mornings and NYP in the evenings. He will not have much free time but now that he's a graduate, he's beginning to realize how important it will be for him to pay for college soon!

He's nearing the point of official acceptance from Bethany Bible College. It could go either way. Here's how I see it. There's this certain young lady who has become an item in Kenny's life. She's a student at SWU. Her parents work at BBC. In fact, her mother is part of the admissions process! Now, the boy could be admitted based on the fact that the mother likes the boy. Or, the boy could be admitted because the mother knows that the next school on his list is SWU and if he's not going to BBC, he's going to SWU...where her daughter is and the mother wants to know where the boy is at all times. Or, the boy may not be admitted to BBC because of the girl and the word may be passed on to SWU to not admit him there either because of the girl. See? I have WAY too much time on my hands!

We are really enjoying watching the Lord work in the life of East Pitcairn Wesleyan Church! We are constantly seeing new faces. The youth ministry is growing! We are having more children on Sundays! Lots of exciting things are taking place! It's awesome! God is awesome!

We are eagerly waiting news of the arrival of my first great-niece! Ugh! I am going to be a great aunt! But that's so cool! And my folks are going to be great grand parents! Hmmm...does that make us ALL old or just them? Brock and Esther, my nephew and his wife, live in California. Cressalyn and I flew there for their wedding nearly 3 years ago. Cressalyn wants to go back when Reagan Joy arrives. I don't see that happening right away! It would be a neat thing, though! Will let you know when Reagan Joy arrives!

Pray for a job for me! I need one not only to occupy my mind and time, but for our finances, too. God is providing. But I need to work. This area seems to have the opposite problem than the ministry...the laborers are ready, but the work is few.
